I have an Airco 250 TIG welder here at home, that is what I have used the most on the car. If it has been mig welded I had a Miller 250 MIG welder at the shop.

Thanx for the reply John, im looking at buying a Miller180 in the next few days. Maybe one day ill have fabrication skills like you and your buddies. Anyways keep up with the updates, your building one hell of a vr4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worthy.gif

My gears shipped last friday, and I received them Wednesday this week. So here is the update, not much left then its off to the dyno and the track to see what this thing can do at "low" power.

makes the diff a lot stronger, and distributes the power up 50% to the front and back wheels.

Dsmgst, the diff Norway asked about is the front diff. This does not affect power split. I suspect that welding is insurance to keep the bolts that hold the 'ring' gear to the diff from loosening. Also, with the pinion cross shaft welded there is no chance it could fall out of the diff housing. Looks like extreme measures in insurance to me.

Thanks. The front diff is welded to ensure nothing lets loose and breaks important parts in the tranny. I did weld my center diff for a 50/50 split and to make sure it does not break either.

Looks great! I'd love to do this with my gvr4 thats been sitting around forever drivetrainless.

Here are the best 2 shots I have. I use a MIG welder to weld the lower spider gear to the diff housing, this is what drives the front pinion. Then I use a TIG welder to weld the top spider gear to the top of the diff, I weld the bottom and the top of the gear to give this as much strength as possible. It is the top of the center diff that drives the output shaft going to the transfer case.

^I was thinking the same thing. I had a set of Avon's on my BMW 2002 that had that pattern and it looks like it means business. Of course missing the fron clip of a car and having it tube framed says the same thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What are you doing for brakes for staging? Im thinking of going with dual line locks once I delete my abs lines. Car looks to be getting close to done, cant wait to see more pictures...

I will either put the parking break cables back in, or wire up for a line lock on the front breaks. I will try it at the track to see how it goes first. I drove the car up and down the street a few times, now I just have some finish up work and take it for a full test drive.

Rear window is done, hood is fitted, break lights, turn signals, and running lights are wired up in the back.

I have dyno time setup, then after that its off to a track to see what it can do.
