Yeah I love those wheels on your car. Sucks that the golds one are only for Subaru offsets. Yeah I know they could be powdercoated.

Thanks so much for the support, and comments guys. In response to having a build bottom end, we were told by the guy who sold us the car a few years back that the bottom end was built. Apparently not. When I compression tested it, I knew it was all stock after getting one 155 reading. Turbowop, thanks for the advice, I think I'll keep just the stock pistons and go MLS and ARP's. 2G pistons are out of the question now I guess.

The only thing the 2g pistons will offer is a bump in compression. Thier not going to be any "stronger" than the 1g's, compared to an aftermarket set. Keep it, freshen up what needs to be freshened.

my 2 cents

hey mate that VR-4 is looking awesome! just a quick question (to anyone who knows) - that throttlebody elbow what is it off and what are the internal dimensions compared to a stock GVR-4 unit?

Cheers!

Should be 2.5" if I recall correctly.

Timing cover came off. I took off all the pulleys, water pump, and tensioner.

Removed my pressure plate and found this. Hurray for me pulling my motor. I probably would have had to pull the transmission anyways. The disk had no material left.

75305_10150342321325607_685700606_16040642_7208101_n.jpg

Pressure plate was also warped.

Cleaned the carbon off my pistons and put some fresh oil in the bores to prevent any corrosion.

Removed almost everything else from my block. All that's left is my pan, front case, and flywheel, then it will be bare and ready to be cleaned.

Going to bed now. Class tomorrow at 8:10 AM. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Update - 10 PM on 11/30/10

I've decided to go with A1 L19 head studs and a FelPro PermaTorque. The block is going to be disassembled and hot tanked and coated. The head will be decked as will the block surface. I was quoted $300 for all the block and headwork.

Pick up a new shaved valve cover. Sandblasted at work and polished a portion of it. Where the PP (Primo Performance) decal is, it is polished underneath the decal. When it is done being powdercoated wrinkle black, I peel off the decal and I get a nice polished "PP" logo left in the lower corner.

I'm trying to pickup a set of EVO VIII valve springs, retainers, and locks on the cheap right now. Yep.

Auuhhhgggg!!! Be careful! I don't even know if I would use that valve cover for fear of it being full of sand. Many an engine has been lost to a sand blasted valve cover with hidden sand leftover. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Had the valve cover powdercoated wrinkle black by a friend. It sports one of my local shop's logo, PP for Primo Performance.

Decided to go OEM gasket and some L19's. Cleaned the deck surface with some P400 and went over it with a straight edge to check for flatness. Everything checks out.

63633_10150346569445607_685700606_16107362_979784_n.jpg

Spent the afternoon cleaning, wire brushing, primering, and respraying my block in "engine metro black enamel." Masking off the deck of the block and the sides took forever. Yes, I did mask off all the important areas before spraying.

154225_10150346569675607_685700606_16107371_6724656_n.jpg

Quick mockup with the head just resting on the block. The head needs to be sent off to be cleaned and decked, and I need to go pickup some L19's and a new HG.

That's all for today. MN is about to get 6-8 inches of snow tonight. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hsugh.gif

Pickup some A1 Tecnologies headstuds off a buddy for $150 today. Yay. Cleaned the desk surface up a tiny bit more. Just need to get that head machined now. Haha!
Things are looking good! I'm excited! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif

Long needed update - 1/8/11.

Tore down the whole block, cleaned, degreased, and painted it again. The old paint did not adhere well and chipped off everywhere. Put together the block again, and here I am. The head was sent off to be resurfaced, and I have a FelPro PermaTorque I am picking up today.

And of course, what GVR4.org moment would be complete without a father son moment? My mom told my dad to go take an interest in what I was doing, so my dad came outside and I let him torque a few bolts down, after I set the torque wrench for him, and told him the torque sequences of course (I retorqued everything after he went inside). Even at age 59 you can work on cars!
