At the end of the day, you do you and let them do them. Driving the car that you do, you'd think you'd have more common sense. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif They ruin nice cars with gaudy modifications that you don't understand, while you dump money into a valueless bucket that they don't understand. Irony. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Let me share my perspective, Would I have maybe thought that was a cool look when I was ten, sure who knows, I had a 69 Datsun 510 that was sorta "HellaFlush". Loved the way it looked then but hated visiting my girlfriend because her apartment had huge speed-bumps my car literally got stuck on. so I parked by the guard shack & had to walk a couple blocks to her place. Car handled like sh*t, all the travel was gone & it was way beyond aligning, hit a good bump in a corner & it was rather a pucker moment. So face it, it's just for looks & is detrimental to performance.
Now I'm in my forties & you may ask why I dump so much into a Galant. well, by the time I have it where I want it she'll run with the most expensive sedans on the market & I'll be into it maybe twenty grand. My other choice to get a car with this kind of performance is what a BMW, if I bought a 740is in 90 it would have run over 40 grand & I'd be getting what 3k maybe 4k for it now. maybe a Mercedes 560sec @80k new now worth what? less than ten will get you just about any example out there. so if I dump 20k into my car & only get 4-5k out of it should I ever really commit to selling her, I still make out & have a car I built to my specs.
Sorry but at forty I have way more admiration for the understated look of Marks 1051 or any other number of fine examples here on the board, not a one has an aftermarket wing or other rice like additions. why because we would rather spend our time & money on a car that rides well, looks good & can rape a vet should the urge strike. And it does all that without attracting the undue attention of the police. put on a stupid wing & pokey wheel tire combo, that beautiful little bit goes right out the window. Hell my jury is still out on carbon fiber hoods & I'm still considering that one myself, it's just I know I'll be on the cops radar if I do & I'd only be doing in some vain attempt to make the car look fast. ultimately I'd prefer to make my car be fast so I doubt I'll waste my budget on a hood.
But as I said if emulating some kind of "Race car" look is what your into, go for it. it's your money & your the one who has to deal with the hassles of compromising proper for what you deem pretty but still a zero offset wheel?!? My 1970 GTO had 0 offset wheels, but it was a rear wheel drive muscle car intended to run offsets like that & would have looked just as gay with a 40 offset as a Galant will with a 0. Or just as dumb as Rick Dobertons Pontiac J2000 pro streeter did, though some people thought it was cool, even if it never actually ran.
