Unknown Sensor

I was wondering if anyone knows what this sensor is and where the wire runs too.

Knock sensor. It mounts on the back of the block and plugs into a corresponding plug on the engine harness.

wires run to a connector that is mounted to the intake manifold support bracket. Half of the connector should be present if the sensor was taken off correctly.

 

Who ever had the car before me just cut the sensor off. So it is not hooked up to the car right now. Could not having it hooked up cause any problems with the workings of the car?

The ecu will retard the timing & throw a code. check engine light should be on.
