Ted,
I think there is probably something in that as well. In fact I posted about coil dwell not so long ago. I'm not sure how many standalones allow you to set coil dwell but I know for sure the AEM EMS does. Certainly guys on the AEM forums have said that setting the coil dwell on the Chrysler coils to the equivalent dwell of the Dodge VIPER produced significantly better results which leads me to believe that what you posted above is also very true. However a lot of guys using COP use it in conjunction with a capacitor discharge ignition module like the AEM or MSD units. Theoretically this should eradicate any problems with charging time since the charge should then be available instantaneously. That said, one of the COP 'gurus' on the AEM forums stated that he got better results programming the VIPER coil dwell into the EMS and using the factory ignitor than he did using an MSD, AEM or any other ignition module, which makes you think doesn't it?

Why use COP? I have seen many cars make big power without it. Is there some advantage to it? It just seems like a pain in the ass.

You would have to drive a car without and then with it to feel the differance. Sometimes its not about top end HP but driveability. My midrange and off idle is way better and when downshifting to pass is instantanious. Plus the top end never breaks up. This is no different than 5 years ago people saying the 20G was gods gift to DSM speed then someone finally bolted on a Garrett then a Holset.

I'm sure for the price the quality would have been awesome but I've heard a lot of issues with Mag Rims on anything other than perfect asphalt and we don't get much of that in Hong Kong. One thing I have learnt about going fast on the roads here is that you need ground clearance, shocks with plenty of travel and strong rims. With these mods alone you can beat just about any car of equivalent performance to your own because the race shocked, lowered and fancy japanese rim brigade brake, slow down and go over every speed hump, pothole, ramp and crack in the pavement at obscenely slow speeds. If you can just keep going you can close them down no trouble.

Are you saying that your a street racer!? (OFF time off of course), Paul? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif

Maybe I'll hop on over to Hong Kong and drive it to see for myself. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif How much longer do I have to wait officer? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jase ... yes it's being fully stripped, seam welded, painted and undersealed ... I'll get pics don't worry. When you say J-spec kit what do you mean exactly.

Sorry mate..

I mean the stock J-spec front and rear bar? (What probably came on your car actually..)

Definitely - mine would have a RS front bumper and vented bonnet/hood if I could afford one.

All the best with it mate.. keep us informed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

So how do you revitalize an old switch panel like this with some new switches ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/idea.gif

First of all, you need to cut those useless coin holders out and put something more functional in them ...

Then a little bit of work with a stanley knife and a drill and voila ...

Looks good Paul! I did the same thing for a Dejontool MBC I had, it had a switch going to a solenoid that would turn the MBC on or off, it gives a very clean look doing it like that. People didn't even notice it (mine were black).

Paul,
I did consider going with black switches. Do you think it would look better? I don't think there is much I can do about the large rocker switches that go in the coin holders, I could only find those in red. But the holes for the others are cut now and it wouldn't take much to switch those over. I just thought a bit of red broke the monotony up a little. Sometimes you can have just too much black !!!

Paul.

A black permanent marker will change the color of the switches. Take your time, get it even, and it will look like they came that way.

Black may look a little cleaner, but I would leave them red. It will make them easier to see in the dark.
