Why: Meet, greet, and drive some twisties

On November 26th we will meet at Starbucks in San Juan Capistrano at 7AM (32022 Camino Capistrano B, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675). Everyone can grab coffee there and do a quick meet and greet before we cruise up into the mountains.

At 8AM we will depart Starbucks, and drive East on Hwy 74 (AKA Ortega Hwy), ending at The Lookout Roadhouse (32107 Ortega Hwy, Lake Elsinore, CA 92530) where the group can grab brunch. Tentatively, I'd say we will be at the Road House around 9AM for guys who just want to meet us there: click

The road should be really nice. It has good sweepers, clean pavement, and plenty of twisties. Traffic shouldn't be too bad early on a Sunday morning, and there are plenty of pull-offs if we want to stop to let traffic pass, or take pictures of cars/scenery.

This meet is tailored toward bringing the SoCal Galant VR-4 crowd together, but ALL makes/models/car guys & gals are welcomed.

Please don't be late! Traffic gets much worse the later you get out there. When I go drive it, i like to get on the road before 7. I realize we are not doing Togue Challenge here, but it does make it more enjoyable when your not going 30 behind Aunt Edna's 1987 Buick for 40 miles.

It was awesome meeting up with the SoCal Galant crew! It was really good to see some old friends, and meet some new ones.

We had a total of 3 VR-4s show. Mine, Jeremy's 734/2000 (the sweet AMG car), and Martin's 802/1000. David showed in his super clean Evo 8, as well as Eric and Anthony who own 1607/2000 and 1877/2000 (respectively). Here's a few shots at the meetup spot before the canyon drive:

Annnnnnd then I got a little overzealous on the way back down and popped the headgasket. HUGE thanks to David and Anthony who stuck around until the tow truck got there. I owe David big for the free tow and ride home. On days like these, I'm just really grateful to be part of a small car community made of straight up legit guys.

Coolant in cylinder 2, but whateves...Needed an excuse to tear the car apart and install the qm twin anyways. Blown head gasket or not, today was awesome. Nothing better than driving the canyons, eating bacon, and spending the better part of the day hanging out with car guys! I've got some video of the canyon drive I'll post later on.

Looking forward to the next iteration for sure. I appreciate everyone coming out!

No, it was a Mitsubishi OEM gasket.

I still need to test the E85 in my tank. I have a suspicion the ethanol content is a bit low, and I got some knock. Can't confirm since I wasn't watching the dash or logging, but I was pushing the car harder than I should have been given the circumstances. I needed to install my twin disk and some other parts anyways, so I guess instead of putting it off forever, now I have a reason to get it done.
