If you want to get the absolute best coilover set up money can buy, there's one place to go. Ohlins.
Now, for those of us who aren't planning on spending $10,000 on a set of kick ass suspenders, might I suggest stepping outside the common street tuner mentality of buying something bolt-on that was very likely a knock-off of a knock-off of what everyone else is having made in China and imported to the States with their team colors?
Start looking into Bilstein inserts. You can get them custom valved just about any way you like. They're rebuildable too. Want them valved for road use, done. Want them valved for race use, done. Want them valved for Baja 1000, done.
Then what you do is you send a set of stockers to a suspension fabrication specialist like Southwest Motorsports or JVAB up in Seattle. They'll fab up the hardware to accept the Bilsteins and bolt nicely to your car. Consider these JVAB 50mm Bilstein bouncers custom made for an Audi rally car.
EDIT: Notice the difference in shaft diameter between the $10,000 Ohlins above and the 50MM on the JVABs below. If you were doing a buck twenty down a logging road, which would you rather have on your car? One set cost less than $3000...
Damn straight those Ebay coilover sleeves are bullshit, but if you're going to spend more than $1000 on suspension, then you really owe it to yourself to consider all your options. Get the most for your money. I've driven a GVR4 rally car with entry level Bilsteins and upgraded springs and it was firm, but nice on the road, but I could hit any speed bump at 30mph and not even feel it, whereas I have to downshift to 1st and coast over them in my KYB setup daily.
Not saying, just saying.
