Size of the rim doesn't mean different diameter. Tire size is more of a factor. 205/55r16 (24.88) is technically the same diameter as a 225/45r17 (24.97). And we know from a past thread that not even all 17s will clear some brakes. Spoke design, backspacing, etc all factor in.
STI's temp spare is 24.44, but the factory tires of 215/45r17 comes out to 24.62 in. A bunch of the temps on ebay for cheap.
The main thing that gets messed up with different sizes are the VCs in the rear diff and center diff. The greater the distance traveled, speed and the greater the difference in diameter of tire sizes determines how fast the plates in the VC burn up.
So you can run slightly different size tire, just don't go cross country with it at mach 2. Keep the speed low and distance as short as possible. They are made to get you somewhere to get it fixed, not to the shootout and back.
