my idea budget is taking over when someone else has gotten tired of sinking their $$ in, and the key components are there /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Pretty much what I did with the daily. It came pretty much built. I did some cosmetic work and and spent some money on: -

Maintenance, turbo, intake manifold, clutch, short ratio transmission, exhaust, wheels, brakes and hubs.

I wouldn't say it was cheap but it's no 20K build either. I've had cars beat me sure, but I've also given quite a few far more expensive cars a damn good run for their money.

I totally want GizmoVR4 to total up the budget to go 9.3@150

Multiply that by two since Nelson has 2 badass Galant VR4s.

I wish he whored out his cars more often. They are both such great examples of what a well built GVR4 should be.

That's what I did. I have a little over 20k into mine right now, but if you add up the parts alone on my car, it's somewhere around $33-35k. Plus the cost of the 100k mile "mint" (for a 22 year old car anyway, it's not perfect) Galant itself. So I don't feel bad about it. Also, I never had the intention of it being an investment. I'm building it for me, because I like it.

yup, with 957:

-e3 16G CHECK
-272 cams CHECK
-mas/fuel upgrades CHECK
-4bolt rear CHECK
-near brand new upgraded Shep trans DOUBLE CHECK

i tossed him the keys to my foxbody in a hurry.

1062, hum ya sure.

I bought the car in 2001 for 4500 it had 77,000 miles on it, it was my very first car, and it was as stock as stock could get.

As for money in, at this point I have no idea. I think I drove it stock for 3 months then it started needing or I put parts into it, I have paid Best buy to install an alarm way back when, other then that I/we have worked on the car.

The current version, running a best of [email protected] in 2011, I have more time and effort into the car then anything. The winter of 2009/2010 we put over 2000 man hours into the car, has for a dollar amount on the go fast goodies I could come up with 30k easy.

All in all I am after a similar goal as Gizmo, that elusive 8s time slip. 2015 may be the year, the car is ready to go, just some more dyno time and maybe nitrous to seal the deal.

^ many piles of vomit will be next to that list.

It would certainly depend on if you want to list/count the previous setups and parts as well as the multiple (very expensive) race motors we have blown up in the process. Last one ate the turbine wheel of a $2800 GTX4202 turbo. ugh...that would truly be a disgusting list if it factored in all the money and parts Nelson has gone through during the process of getting to the point we are at now. I think there is damn near nothing that we haven't modded, broken, replaced, outgrew, and replaced again.

Budgets are like diets, everyone has one, it just depends on whether or not it's healthy.

I don't want to think about what I've spent on my car, not 431 level, but bad enough. Heck, just in miscellaneous little crap in the last year to finish up it's been considerable. It's amazing how many parts I gave away/loaned/lost/etc and had to replace while JSB'ing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rofl.gif

that little "misc parts" at the end of my budgeting lists is always a loose, rounded up number, that i double.

The way I see things when it comes to 431 budget …. I don’t count labor hours into the equation since wrenching and fab work is something I enjoy. If I counted labor hours or had to pay for fab work the cost factor would be insane. The car for the most part gets worked on when time permits which in recent years has been limited by family commitments.

When it comes to parts cost I try to buy used parts whenever possible. Basically I look at the resale value of the parts I put on 431. For example this year we are upgrading to a mechanical pump – If anyone is interested I have a Pro series Aeromotive pump for sale for $500 which is basically what I paid for it a few years ago . The only parts I buy new are internal engine, which we likely wouldn’t need if we didn’t push the envelope for the elusive 8 second time slip! Our current setup is very capable of running mid 9 second ¼ mile times with limited failures.

From day one we didn’t set out to build a 9 second car … it just kind of happened!! We were not out to set records – nor do I care about records to be honest! 431 is a hobby, once it stops being fun the car will likely be for sale. This is something Nate and I have talked about recently actually, if the car goes 8S next year and our goal is met the car will be for sale. Both Nate and I have young children and time just doesn’t permit for us to keep running the car – at least not at this point in our lives.

Would I recoup the money I have in 431? No, absolutely not!! I would make an attempt at selling the car complete with a price tag ~$25,000. Which at that price the car could not be duplicated! After reading numerous car for sale ads and the bickering on what these cars are worth – we could agree that the only way to recoup most of the value in 431 would be to part the car out!!

One thing that often gets overlooked is the people it takes to build a car such as 431. I am grateful to everyone who helps with the car!! Henry for keeping the paint perfect, Pat for helping me with some of the mechanical work, and Nate for the tuning and crew chief work !!
