Update! Here are the measurements. This is total stroke, not calculated with the bump stop (because in theory, you could pancake the bump stop if you take a hard enough hit).

Total available stroke for the default kit:
4.5" Front
5" Rear

Total available stroke for the Max Travel kit:
5.625" Front and Rear

Please hit me up as needed if you have anymore questions!

For a lot of street driven cars on street tires, it probably is better. Ultimately tire choice and intended use are the determining factors here. Generally, a kit with more compliance and travel will offer better grip/handling on rough surfaces and better ride quality, but the stiffer kit would have an advantage controlling roll/dive/squat and ability to maximize a sticky tire.

I finally got more pics uploaded and made a thread in the FS section to consolidate and make things easier for people to find the most pertinent info.
Link to FS thread is here: click

Here is oldmantau’s car getting some well-deserved press a few months after the install:

Also, I thought i'd list these for the off road guys, for cars that don't always get to drive in the most favorable conditions, or if you are just looking for added protection:

FEAL "Shockwears" shock covers

These are semi-universal. Fits 60mm, 62mm, 65mm and 2.5” ID diameter springs, and are available in 3 different lengths (see link for details).

UPDATE:

FEAL is currently building a kit for a member on here that includes REVISED FRONT LOWER BRACKETS that allegedly have the correct ABS/Brake line mounting provisions. I expect to be picking them up next week and will report back with my findings, with pics!!

In other news, the planets finally aligned and i got my own 441 kit installed on my evo 8. This kit is AWESOME. The valving is on point, and the car rides better than stock and is the best i've experienced in the sub-$2000 price range. It's firmer than stock, but smoother than stock. The car feels very planted and stable, and the Evo has pretty good suspension to begin with, so i'm really, really happy. Will be going to the track with it next weekend for further analysis.

I realize that these are two different cars, but there are enough similarities that i feel it is still relevant:
Vehicle weight with driver: 3322
Weight distribution: 61.6% front, 38.4% rear
Suspension config: MacPh Strut front, Multi-link rear, with suspension geometry and motion ratios similar to E38/39A.

Obviously there are differences between the two cars as well, but if nothing else i can vouch for their quality once again.

It would be awesome (and great that FEAL is willing to revise the tooling) to get the correct brackets for OEM hoses and ABS wiring. I've always hated that you were "on your own" with any of the coilover companies. Their universal bracket is pretty good, but properly designed tabs on the lower housing will be even better! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/applause.gif

UPDATE:

The revised front lower brackets are now available, and they are very good. They have the correct provisions for both the ABS and hard-line (brake line) brackets. Woo hoo! Moving forward, i'll make sure that all kits that we have built use these brackets. Super stoked for this. Thanks to everyone who has helped on this project- notably Feal, EMX5636, oldmantau, and VR6Eater.

So simple, yet so effective. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/applause.gif Definitely nice to be able to run the factory hoses. I think I even purchased one of the last sets available of brackets and intermediate hardlines for the front. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif

Quoting ApexHunter:
spring rates we recommend for this kit (max travel) are 6/4k, but can use the default rates as well. Valving would be slightly different to accommodate the spring rates you choose.

Update!

GVR4 Max Travel kits are now using 6K springs front and rear! It was determined that this was a better combination.

The first GVR4 Max Travel kit was built and shipped, and idreamidrive will be reviewing for us shortly!
