I had a string of battery and alternator problems where i ended up pullint he alternator and rebuilding it. turned out it had no effect.
What i isolated it to was all of the body earths in the engine bay were all furred up. got an m6 bottoming tap and handle, and some wire wool, then worked my way around starting with the big ground strap off the battery. cleaned the treminal that bolts to the body and copper greased it all prior to reassembly. Did the little earths to the inlet manifold, and the wiper motor eart too. MASSIVE improvement. no more slow start and flickering!
Hope this helps. and it was easier and quicker than pulling the alternator again
