"6 bolt" refers to internal engine parts (actual number of bolts holding the flywheel to the crank), they are also called "big rod motors". They were made from 90 to 92. In 93 they switched to "small rod/7 bolt motors". It really has nothing to do with engine management or ECU type.
Having said that, I only use 6 bolt/big rod motors, because vertually NEVER crankwalk. While 7 bolt/Small rod motors do it fairly often...
