Get I know this has been beat 1000 times and I've read a bunch but alot of them go for straight out race cars. A couple things I was wondering.

1. Is our front crossmember different then a 1g is so does anyone make a chromoly 3 peice like they do for dsms.

2. How heavy is our crash bars? Is it easier to make my own replacement of does someone else make then?

3. What little things have you die to shed some weight while emaining a complete street car with mostly stock aprearance.

I've allready deleted ac and a few things under the hood that didn't need to be there. I'm not good rl for lightest alot by any means but would like to be around 3000 pounds

they do make a 3 piece chromoly crossmembers but the full 3 piece doesnt save much weight

3 piece crossmember cost around $265. The NS bars are different, but everyone that makes them for the DSM makes them for the VR4.

Here is my weight reduction so far:
-1 piece chromoly cross member
-chromoly mustache bar
-DSS aluminum driveshaft
-removed F&R crash bars
-removed AC
-removed cruise control
-removed 4WS
-removed ABS
-removed spare tire and jack
-removed trunk carpet and plastics
-removed firewalls insulation
-removed windshield fluid
-removed sound deadening under dash
-89 under dash and glove box
-removed carpet padding
-lighter battery
-CF hood with hood latches
-removed all emissions
-manual steering rack
-trimmed wiring harnesses
-removed heater box, blower motor
-deleted coolant to TB and turbo, NA OFH


Next up is a harness bar and manual windows

None at all, I'll find out once it's finished this spring. If it's above 3,000lbs I'll be pissed. I keep think of things I forgot from that list too haha

Good lightweight rims can help shed up to 30 lbs, plus it's rotating weight. Seats are another way to shed 50lbs.

What do this cars weigh in at factory? I've heard all over the place.

I always figured 3400 with all fluids full... Not sure how close I am.

It's closer to 3,300lbs I believe, less if you don't have a sunroof

Mine does have a sunroof. I planned on removing the sound deadener, the ac? The f&r bumper supports and all the emission stuff. Was going to remove the power steering my my wife enjoys the car with it. Also haven't decided if the 4ws is staying or be. I guess a big part will depend on if it works

ABS is pretty heavy, basically worthless, and easy to remove. I would do that one for sure

I am using a three piece cross member, it weighs a sh*t ton less than the heavy stamped steel oem pieces.

I got my crossmember kit from www.bulfab.com . Mine was mainly done to create more room in the engine bay. It's lighter than stock. I heard about 10lbs savings.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe I've read that one of the bars (in the bullfab kit) needs to be removed in order to do an oil change with the stock oil pan. Something how the bar runs right up against the drain plug. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Yeah...but it's not really much to do. You remove that one bolt and it (the bar) swivels out of the way. It takes me more time removing the turbo oil feed from the oil filter housing than getting that N-S bar out of the way.
