Try carb cleaner, it takes off old or cheap paint a lot of times, then aircraft stripper. Wire wheel or blasting works great too

brake fluid takes to long, carb cleaner dosn't remove paint, wire wheel looks like sh*t for painting.

sandblasting or aircraft remover are definetly the best options

Don't forget to remove and seals, etc. that you may want to keep.

um, carb cleaner can remove paint, if it's cheap or old. Trust me, I've ruined a lot of paint using it, and a wire wheel doesn't make it look like crap. I use wire wheels all the time.

I was going to say rebuild them while you're at it. The kits of rubber parts only cost a few bucks and it's simple to do.

Cool, I'll try the aircraft stripper and go from there. I was thinking wire wheel to begin with, but I didn't think I'd be able to get in all the nooks and crannies.

Will do. I may rebuild them while I'm at it, sounds easy and cheap enough and they could probably use it. That'll let me clean them more thoroughly too.

I've been looking at doing mine... seems like new caliper pistons and seals really arent that much money...

I decided not to rebuild them because the seals looked fine. Here's the results of the aircraft stripper. Works pretty well, but if you get it on your skin, it feels like sticking your hand in a fire ant pile. Not recommended. After I was about 90% done using it, I had the bright idea to find some gloves. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

There's still a yellow tinge to the calipers, and I couldn't get all the paint off. I think I would have to take a wire wheel too it. So I picked up some black caliper paint because I think that will look the best.

that's the crushed velvet caliper mod, all the cool guys are doing it.

Make sure you clean that stripper off with carb cleaner, or something similar, if you haven't already. Also, I blasted and powdercoated my calipers chrome, with all the internals still together and it held up fine. They were new, but I'm sure used ones would be fine too. If they can withstand the blasting/carb cleaner/oven, I'm sure they can withstand some stripper and cleaner. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
