Spring advice

Hi-

Have AGXs which are working out pretty well. However the stock springs are both sagged and a little soft. I would go with the H&R springs, but I can't have the 1.5" lowering. I use this as my rally recce car and it's almost too low already.

Is there any option that's stiffer but keeps stock ride height, or even a little higher?

Does anyone know the stock rates?

I'd look into stock EVO 8/9 springs. I think they provide a close to stock height, or are even taller.

You could add some Ground Control coilover sleeves to you existing AGX's. That would allow adjustment up or down as well as being able to swap out springs with different rates.

I've heard that using springs ~ 30%-50% stiffer than stock will lead to blowing out the AGXs.

1G AWD DSM springs are slightly lower in back, but taller in front. You can use 2G rear upper mounts to make it level. (2G rear mount is about 1" taller)

The best spring for the money to lower your car is the H&R set. They are Galant VR4 specific and lower 2 in the front and 1.5 in back.

Whitelines are said to be the best for fitment and height (lowered), but these may be NLA.

The Evo 8 suspension setup requires some fabbing. click

The Evo 9 suspension setup (may require drilling of front knuckles to accept larger dia bolt) is pretty comfortable, and I think approximately stock height.

Most people who are serious about suspension recommend contacting Larry Parker for a Hotbits coilover setup made specifically for the VR-4.

You could use Evo springs up front which will be stiffer and will also raise the ride a little. You can look through the How-To archive to get pictures of what that would look like. H&R rear springs might be a good choice since most of us cut about 1/2" out in order to get the ride we desire. Thus they might be just right for you uncut.

Alternatively, if you can find someone with a set of white-line lowering springs that they're willing to give up you might find them a perfect fit. My buddy QShip has a set and his car actually sat higher with those than it had with the sagging stockers.

I have a set of GVR4 specific Ground Control coilovers meant for AGXs brand new in the box, PM me if interested.
