Slave Cylinder FAIL

I lost all pedal pressure when I was trying to pull away from a stop light. After examining things a bit, I see that most of the fluid coming from there and actually part of the fork (not sure if this is what it's called) broke off. My mechanic says he has to drop the tranny. =( That's two hydraulic systems that have failed on me in the last 4 months. Sorry, had to vent.

A moderate Cusco clutch with Clutchmasters flywheel that I got from DSG a while back. Both went on when I replaced the tranny with a low mileage JDM last year.

So an aftermarket clutch can do such damage?

i broke my throw-out fork this spring. You are going to want to replace that little "pivot ball" that the fork uses as a fulcrum, since you allready have the tranny out of the car and it is a cheap part.

Fairly typical for the fork to fail from fatigue. The real kicker is that the slave might be hosed from over extending past the normal seal travel point.

Its always a good idea to replace the fork when you're doing a clutch if you're not sure of its age. Mitsu actually updated the part over the years to beef it up. Its not the clutch's fault, its just more than the fork was designed to handle and the fork was probably old and weak to begin with.

the updated fork is much beefier, I thought I was sent the wrong part after a side-by-side comparison. I ran the part # and it was right.

i just got the slave cylinder repair kit for mine. but my pedal dint fudge

Yes, if the fork is broken the transmission has to be removed. Make sure you get the revised fork from one of the dsm vendors JNZ/Extremepsi/Machv/RRE/etc. If you can find the Taboo Speed Shop's 4140 Billet Steel Clutch Release Fork get it. Click here to see what it looks like. While you're in there make sure you get a new ball and a washer under it if you don't have one already.

I got the car back from my shop and everything is fine now. My mechanic told me he was able to get the revised fork which he said is "close to twice as beefy". I wish I replaced the fork when I replaced the tranny and clutch last year. If the fork goes out again, I'm going to replace the clutch with something softer. BTW, I also installed a 3" downpipe he had laying around. My exhaust is still stock, but I do notice the boost comes on quicker now.
