Removing ABS sensors in rear?

Hello Guys,

I am trying to remove the ABS/Speed sensors in the rear. I know they normally just pull out. But mine won't come out both sides. Is there a special way?

Thanks

The special way is to swear, and swear a lot. This things can be an extreme pain to get out. Generally I do it by rotating the sensor in its bore as I pull out. Sometimes I'll rotate it by tapping it on the side on the tab where the bolt goes through to hold it down. So using that method with liquid wrench will eventually get the damn thing out. Just try not to pry/pull on the top of the sensor. Try to only use the metal flange part that bolts to the trailing arm.

I tried and tried to get mine out using various torque modification devices. I eventually got them out by getting out from under the car, grabbing the dikes, and cutting the damn wire at the base of the sensor. I then stood on the bumper, dike in my right hand, cut wire in my left, and said "I DECLARE THIS SENSOR TO HAVE BEEN REMOVED!!" three times very loudly. I believe my neighbor heard this as a witness so legally under Sharia law, they are removed.

I did this on my car, and was so pissed at it, I decided to replace the entire subframe, take out the 4ws too, and redo the hubs with no abs in them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In any case dont forget about the abs computer that will bitch at you if you decide to remove them completely. Might as well pull all the garbage out if you decide to eliminate it. Think there is a thread in the tech section on this.

I cannot remember how this is in the gvr4, but when I did extended lugs and bushings on the Evo VIII, I had the same damn issue with the ABS sensors. I did not want to damage them but they would not budge. Prying and prying at it - finally the plastic broke off. I got so pissed I cut the damn wires off the rest and had a machine shop press them out when the beadblasted my knuckle . Luckily, I found a set from a guy online for 100 bux for all 4. Incidentally, this was the guy that had built that freakish mirage/Evo III that had horrendous welds and such for the gas tank or something - there was a thread here about it.

I think the only way is to routinely take them out clean them and maybe use anti-sieze or some sort of water repellent lube that prevents them from getting siezed.

Wow I can't believe they are that hard to get out. That is why I stopped last night I didn't want to brake them. I sprayed some lubricant around them last night too. I will try again today. I am dropping the whole rear end. So they will have to come out.

If you are keeping them, and the only reason you want them out is to remove the rear, then you could just disconnect them at the connector to the body harness which is under the rear seat area.

I just cut the sensor wires close to the hub and left the sensors themselves in place to keep debris out of the hole.

Couldn't get them out. So I just followed the line up the body and disconneted it. All good now. Just got to drop the rear down and start cleaning.

Thanks guys.
