RACK & PINION REMOVAL?

Tired of having no powersteering, so im fixing mine. never messed with the rack and pinion but just wanna know what the easiest and fastest way to remove and install one. i know i gotta remove the transfer case but need a little bit more info since i wanna get it done in a day or two bacause its my DD. So a little help please, by the way its a 91 talon awd auto. let me know please. thnx

You can get it out with the sway bar installed on the endlinks but dropped from the subframe. Break the castle nuts, drop the two semi circle mounts for the front sway. This will allow you to get a 1/2 ratchet with an extension on the brackets holding the rack in. Remove the rack mounts but leave the bolts in slightly because you need to go up top and break the 12mm bolt loose holding the steering shaft to the rack. That 12mm bolt is shallow headed so use a 6 point.

The rack will slide down off the steering shaft and you will have enough clearance push it to one side and the other side under or around the strut/a-arm. Then just push it back and it will drop out.

I dropped the transfer case and I think the DP and some of the subframe braces as well. Not very long. Hour maybe to get out.
