prothane changed their front motor mount?

Years ago I bought a set of prothanes and the front roll stop was just two pieces that you sandwich in.

I got a new kit that arrived yesterday and the front roll mount is one piece design. Package says frnt 90-94. Did Prothane change their design for the fornt piece? I guess I was expecting two pieces to shove in and be done with it but now I need to remove the old rubber. How do you guys suggest I do this? Cutting torch and melt the stuff out? Cut it out with a saw blade? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I may do the back one too but leaving the sides stock.

Here is a pic.

Yep, looks like it. I welcome the change personally because I never like the inserts to begin with.

There are a couple ways. Personally I don't like the smell of burning rubber. So I use a sawzall or hacksaw blade to cut out most of the rubber in the original mount. You will notice that the rubber is fused to a metal ring which is pressed into the mount. You will need to use a hacksaw black to cut a slit in the ring. This will allow the ring to fall out of the mount. Then you can insert the prothane mount in. This is basically identical to the process used on the other three mounts, I'm sure someone already has a write up you can use as a guide.

Thanks a bunch Jon and Mark. I figured this would be the case but just wanted to make sure.

I switched to this mount because in upgrading the fittings for my drain tube put the fitting from the center cartidge real close to the motor mount. So I removed it and took off some material and it was still real close so I am hoping that the stiffer mount will keep the drain tube fitting from coming in contact with the mount.

I got a little air saw that will cut that mount out pretty easy Mike. If you want to stop by and use you are welcome too.

Alright, Evil Knievel, I just may do that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've been using one of the new mounts for a few months. I used a torch to burn out the old mount, then after it was cleaned out I lubed up the new mount and put it in with a vice.

Anyone reading this......This is for prothane mounts. The bushings John and I did for the rear subframe and mustache brace utilize the steel sleeve and if your doing them don't cut the steel ring or your in for a world of pain trying to find a donor or fabing up a sleeve to press in. That is all.

Your still here
