I just did the 1G assist valve mod recently. I used the VFAQ as is. Some of the pics are missing, but the text makes sense when you get the valve apart. You are just putting a spacer in between in the end of the plunger where the spring seats. Sorry, I didn't take any pics.

I did the mod on my race car. I used the end of an air fitting for air tools for the shim. Have no more high rpm cutout. I thought I took pictures but I have no Idea where they are.

Hi Shane. I was thinking that was you that I sold my 2G to. I just recently rebuilt my power steering pump. I haven't put it back on the Galant yet. The car has sat for years, I just started working on it again a couple months ago. It should be done soon. I also used the cut off end of an air tool fitting to make my spacer. I used to do a lot of auto crossing and rally crossing back in the day. When I first started, I ran into problems with the power steering pump cut-out often. But as I got better and drove smoother, I stopped running into the cut-out, so I never bothered to do the mod back when I had a running Galant/DSM.

you can use washers right? what size if so? and Ive read up on the mod and havent figured it out, it helps with steering or it decreasing steering at high rpm? can you tell a big difference from the mod?

lol yea, I saw your name in the sig, I knew it was you. I remember you had a KG? in the garage when i bought the gsx from you. I met a couple BayDsmers not to long ago. I dont remember their names but one is a original owner of a 91 White GSX and the other has had a Vr4 before. They both said they know you.

It does not change the steering feel or performance at all, only prevents "lockup" under certain conditions like auto-x ( high RPM, low vehicle speed ).

I experienced it a few times on 86. Kinda spooky when it happens, steering wheel hydro-locks for a moment then suddenly releases/turns normally. Side note, I found my PS idle connector off/loose after the lockups had happened. I reconnected and crimped it, no more lockups afterward altho I only ran two events post repair.

The KG is still keeping the dust off of the jackstands, but hopefully not for much longer. It sounds like you met Tony with the GSX. Lots of Bay DSMers have owned GVR4's, there used to be a bunch of them in the area. How long did you keep the 2G? Who did you buy your GVR4 from?

As for the power steering mod, the valve that gets shimmed closes off to reduce flow at higher rpm. Mitsu's idea is to make the steering heavier at high speed. But it also increases effort at low speed if you are at a high rpm, like at they top of first or second gear in an autocross. Shimming the valve raises the point at which the pressure change happens.

Yea Tony is who I met I'm pretty sure, he was with a guy that owned a BG vr4. IIRC I ought the car from you in 07 and I sold it in 08 because I let a friend drive it and let's say he ain't my friend anymore.I bought my vr4 from a guy in Burlingame that has a yellow one as well and he bought it off Conrad.
