Noise/thunk I can't track down...

So I have this thunking noise coming from the front passenger side when I shift hard or start from a dead stop. You can actually feel it through the floor. It also does this creaking noise when take a slow turn.

Thought it was my strut and strut mount, replaced both and it didn't help.

Checked ball joint and tie rod all good.

I'm thinking now its one of the sub frame bushings or the support beneith the radiator and one of the bushings is shot.

Anyone else have this problem?

 

i had one do kinda the same thing and it was the lower control arm bushing but check the cv axle to

Both bushings on the control arm were new 30K miles ago. And the axle is good.

How are the sway bar links/pillow balls on that side?

I had one that wore enough to rattle anytime that side of the car was loaded.

Just take a prybar and wiggle the sway bar up and down and eyeball the link. If there's play, replace it.

A bad upper strut mount can give these symptoms as well.

Toybreaker, I'll try your idea with the pry bar and the sway bar end link.

I thought as much about the strut mount also. I got a brand new kyb upper strut mount from rock out and it didn't help.

The end links look fine. This is the only things I could find what I thought could cause the noise.


Where the arrow is pointing, that shadow is actually a gap between the bushing and the frame. Is that normal?





This is the bushing on the bracket that holds the one end of the control arm in place. The bushings on both sides are dry rotted.

Could either of those things cause the noise I hear?

Check the shocks too!

I replaced the passenger said shock when I replaced the top mount. It was definitely blown but didn't fix the noise.
