Well, since I got rid of 420, and sold off all my subframe parts that I redid, I guess it's time to start over. This is all off my black car, and is gonna get the whole treatment again, all new bushings/bolts/washers/nuts/coating/bearings/seals/etc. I hope to buy another car this summer, so I'm gonna get this all done now and just store it till then (or end up selling it all again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) I'll slowly update it as I get things done. If there's anything in particular anyone wants to see, or has questions about, just post it up.

I was thinking of doing a post on this very thing so I'll just whore yours out.

I've been looking up poly bushing kits for the whole car from Energy Suspension and Prothane and others. Is there anything not in the DSM kit that someone would need besides the mustache brace and rear subframe big bushings. I'm going to build my own control arms with heim joints but seems like all the separate prices are as much or more so I'll just get the master kit. Only thing I can think of was small bushings for the carrier bearing mounts and the bushings on the steering racks front and rear and bump stops to go on the strut tubes but thats just a waste of money anyway. Everything else seems to be there in the master kit. Post up if you know of something that isn't.

Oh you should go nuts with a camera since most never go this nuts that way we can make up a how to thread for the archives. Best of luck with the project. Hope it turns out as good as your last so you get some enjoyment this time.

Thought of two more. The bushings on the front cross brace that the front motor mount hooks to.

The very front crossmember that holds the motor mount uses two of the ones that are on the front subframe, so you can get them, but you have to get the subframe kit, which comes with four (two different sizes).

I'll take a set of carrier bearing bushings, these are shot.

I'll take a pic of every bolt, and everything I do, and we'll see what we can come up with. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

*rear lower strut bushings would be nice

When I saw all your pictures above the first thing I noticed was the carrier bearings and thought of the Mustang sway bar endlink kits at auto zone. I bet they would work perfect because the sway bar through bolts are metric on the POS cars. I can say that because I spent a mint on my old Mustang.

I think the zone sells them for like 15 or 20 a set and you get 8 in a kit.

They would work, I have a bin full of different rubber bushings and found a few old ones inside.

There designed with a small step and when two are together the bushing would slam together and the carrier bearing would have movement but a small washer or bushing welded to the bearing housing and the urethane cut down with a mill or belt sander should solve that or even better just hard mount them with a washer and have a nut above and below to preset the angles like discussed in the other thread about the shims. But you want to talk about race car vibrations.... I'm not doing it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually I think a small cut around the outside of the ford units would work like factory style but with out pulling mine off the car wouldn't know positively. These carrier bearings I pulled from a dsm that was never finished. The owner started and ended up couldn't get a title and at the same time had to move so the car got sent to the junkyard. They were brand new but the rubber bushings were oil soaked and nasty so I left them in the mud with the rest of the rusted out propeller shaft.

Why did you quit the good job you had Kenny? Couldn't take the slaughterhouse anymore?

Misc progress pix.

I decided the whole power steering system is gonna be white. Don't know why, just felt like being different. Not that it will be seen anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

*No half-a$$ing here, each part is wire-wheeled/sanded then coated with rust encap., then either painted or coated with the chassis black. I just can't get myself to put something back together with rusty parts.
