I was wondering what this extra plug went to on the RS vr4 I am getting ready to put the new harness into my car and the RS harness has this extra plug Anyone know ? Just so you know this is the side that plugs in under the steering wheel...not the ECU side.
Thanks,
JC

Just to verify, are the four colours red w/ white stripe, red w/ black stripe, blue w/ white stripe and blue w/ black stripe?

Do yo have a USDM harness to cross-check with? It looks like it may plug into the ignition column to stop the buzzing when you have the key removed and to not allow you to lock the doors if you still have the key in.

ok so I can see that big fat white wire with red stripe connector tucked in behind the fuse box on mine, but I need to do some more prodding around and perhaps remove my fuse box to find that other connector.

found it - it goes into the fuse box on mine. I don't know what it's for though - perhaps if I unplug it and see what's no longer working I might get an answer haha.

You can see that other large connector just above it, the fat white cable with red stripe plugs in on the left just out of sight.

Are you able to follow the four colours on the other end of the loom? Perhaps that will provide a clue. Unplugging it apparently does nothing on mine.

Also, I doubt it's a difference between RS and non-RS, I think it's a difference between facelift and non-facelift looms - I don't think that extra plug is even Evolution specific. For instance pre-facelift RS looms wont have that plug also, while facelift models perhaps including all other Galant models like the Viento, MX, VX-S etc will have it, RS and Evolution included.

Just had a look and neither my pre-facelift nor my facelift have that plug - or even the socket for it on that board.

hrmm weird, it must be from a certain year onwards or something, as I found the connector in the US Galant chassis PDF manual. It labels the connector as Connector L Front loom but I can't find anywhere in the rest of the manual where the wires end up in the car specifically. I found a schematic which basically shows the wires connecting to various other connectors but couldn't be bothered tracing them back either.

Its connector c108 and its from a redesign of the power routing to meet newer safety requirements. Two of the wires running through there run the radio on one and the clock stuff and battery backup stuff on the other. Alot of the loom had beebn segregated and moved about on the fuse box. its a while since i've had to jump looms but from memory it was to allow more segregation/availability of the power routing/ fuse allocation. Tail lamps get a seperate fuse for each side and there are some other irritating changes too.

what year is the car you are putting it in? Your JDM loom is post 90.10 right? Do you have access to the body loom off the donor car? (goes behind the dash, along the drivers side, under the front seat and all round the boot and the parcel shelf.

If you saw how he went about fixing these cars up, you wouldn't be astounded anymore. I think the loom in his daily driver must be a hybrid of about six different cars with everything he has put in it over the years not to mention converting it from a 4G37 1800 carby with 8 valves to an 1800 DOHC 16 valve. I think this particular re routing of wiring he encountered during his engine swap because the door locks or interior lights or something wouldn't work ... he's full of stories!!!

In fact I think he knows more about these cars than the blokes that designed them!

I have the interior loom also but I was hoping to not have to remove the loom from inside the car..... Are you telling me I have to swap the interior loom out also,,, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thought I might update this a little. Thursday night and Friday morning I spent chasing wires and comparing the old burn harness and the new harness. The differences I noticed was the extra 4 wires which seem to be a looping set to the fuse box as was noted above, The connector that plugs into the body was missing 5 connectors (fender lights) and one of the 8 pin connecto4s with 2 open pins was pinned slightly different I assume for the fuse box changes. All wires I checked were identical in color and routing just different pins. So basically I swapped the pins on the one connector a red wire and a large diameter green wire (this connector went to the fuse box I believe) and added the 5 pins and wires for the fender lights to the other connector that goes to the interior body harness I believe.
