how far does seat belt go?

I just have a stupid question about the stock seat belts. i wanted to see how far my body would travel before the seat belt locks if, god forbid, i was in an accident. when i pull it as hard and fast as i can it locks right at the steering wheel. does mine have too much play? also it should be noted that the way i sit my chest is about 2' from the steering wheel. thats sitting upright at a normal driving position(not with the getto lean).

You also have to take into account, the belts lock up when the brakes are applied, at least mine do, and they seem to be in working order. Otherwise, mine will do as you said, and not lock until they touch the steering wheel without the brakes applied. I would assume it's nothing to be concerned about, just the nature of the design. Not like our cars are anywhere near the safest in the world, but more solid feeling than the DSM counterparts nonetheless.

Seat belts have a pendulum lock. Take your car out and brake quickly and while braking, pull the seat belt out. It wont go more than an inch before it locks up. Even turns and hard acceleration will lock the belt spool.
