I am trying to remove my center vent and its been in there for 19 years she is a little stiff lol. Anyone have a picture of the back of one or can someone take a picture of one. Even a good description of where the clips are behind it.

This would be really helpful

If memory serves me right they're on opposite corners of each other. If that's not the case at least one of them is.

I believe the dash has to come out to remove the center vent on GVR4's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Wait till tomorrow and I'll have a sure answer.

I have a complete galant, already disassembled in storage.

If you pull the stereo you can reach up from underneath to remove the center vent. Stereo is held in with a few bolts that are accessible from the front once you pop that trim bezel out.

Exactly right. I just looked at the dash I have in storage and the center vent is mounted to the inside of the dash with screws. Furthermore, it appears that you'd also have to remove the ducting from inside the dash to access atleast one, probably two, of the screws.

Damn it not what I wanted to hear at all /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

Wow that is REHtarded. Try going the removing the stereo route first and see if you can get the vent out that way.

Good luck, but there are atleast 4 screws holding it in and I couldn't access 2 of them with the ducts in place and the dash out.

I'm telling you. I pulled my center vent the first day I owned the car so that I could unplug the door buzzer. It wasn't until years later that I ever removed the whole center console. If you remove the stereo you can reach up from underneath to undo the screws that hold the vent in place.

Hey Roger, I'm not trying to step on your toes here, you have been here really long time and give tons of great advice. I just don't think its possible. Someone prove me wrong. If it can be done, I'll change my mind about it, but no one else with a dash just lying around has spoken up either. Just thought I could help is all.

Fair enough... In all honesty I'm operating on 5 year old memories of when I first bought the car so it's gonna be really embarrassing when I'm proven wrong. BUT, I did take my center vent out and I did not remove the center console to do it.

Edit : It's a good thing there are people around to call me out when I start spewing nonsense. Upon closer look it's clear that I never took the actual vents out so I can only speculate. First off... the stereo compartment is isolated from the upper dash so there's no point in touching that. If you want to get your hands in behind the upper vent you have to pull out the HVAC. There are four screws (two behind the ash tray) which hold the bezel in place and then four more screws which hold the HVAC controls. You'll also have to pop the nobs off of the left/right and vent/recirc levers. With that out you should be able to get a stubby screwdriver up there and pop the vents...
