Hi

Im looking into a Radiator that can fit under the xbar.

Ofc. the AFCO Scirocco is the choice, however AFCOs comes from the US which makes then very expensive for me to get.

Id there any particular reason for its always an AFCO you use, or would any Scirocco Radiator do? even an OEM one?
Seems the Golf2 radiator is close to the same?
Basically is the brand just because its easy for you to get or will any Alu Scirocco rad do?

The Afco will cool better then the stock unit. afco makes performance type radiators. if you go stock you might as well get a thick core honda unit as it will cool close to the same.

Well an AFCO cost 320 bucks + 80 in shipping overseas + 40% on import tax ect. so 600$ if im lucky. Thats a lot.

So you see why I wanna find a good alternative that still fit the same way.

An oem Scirocco Radiator I can find locally for 50 bucks.

What honda core is that? does that fit under the beam as well?

I dont need better cooling than the stock galant core.

^^ Look at the multitude of posts regarding "cheaper" Civic half rads then pay the money for a good AFCO unit.

I never wanted a civic half rad.

I want something that sits like an AFCO without it being an AFCO since its a US company.

I must learn to express myself clearer then.

Surely there is an aftermarket radiator out there, since it's for a VW.

Compare images of radiators?

I think the picture is upside down, since the tabs is on the upside.

This is the OEM style rad.

Stock scirocco's will cool fine. 1000's of big block chevy drag cars run them. I have one and just put one on a buddies honda a few months ago. The stock ones are round tube where the afco and other aftermarket are flat thin tubes... may be thicker but don't hold the volume and all have the same frontal area. Passat units are a slight bit longer and have a twin fan set-up with one motor and a small belt that runs the other. Corrados have the same setup with a thinner motor that doesn't stick out as far. I mounted the passat fans to my scirocco and works to damn good or did as I remember. Car still isn't running. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

I ran a stock Scirocco radiator under the core support in my 4g63 swapped mirage for a couple of years. It will work fine and cools nicely. Not as pretty as an afco unit and you will have to get creative with the mounting, but for $50 you can't go wrong.
Make sure to buy the coolant temp sensor block-off plug too or you will have one huge leak on the driver's side. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

+1. A fellow board member and good friend of mine has had nothing but problems with his Afco radiator. It leaks from everywhere.

Im sure its great, however it suffers from the exact same reasons why I didnt want the AFCO
Insane import taxes from US to EU.

It seems the VW/Porsche fan switch run at
Opening Temperature (0C): 92c = 198F
Closing Temperature (0C): 82c = 180F

Aint that higher than ours and does it matter?

Or is it better to plug the bung and run an inline switch?
