'90 oil cooler question

Is the '90 oil filter head/oil cooler setup full flow to the cooler or is just a portion of the oil pump output channeled through the cooler? And I seem to remember reference to a thermostat that may control this?

 

RRE has this which shows how the oil bypass works on the '90 housing:

Exactly! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Its full flow when the oil temperature is high, closed at low temperatures, and somewhere in between full open or closed when the oil temperature is just right.

I was just examining mine this week, and it looks like the thermostatic valve closes off the return side of the flow.
