17x9 wheels

I took a look at the known combination page and for 17x9 wheels the recommendations are a 245(w/45series tires)-255(w/40series tires)and offsets between 25-30.So my questions,is this the highest offset you can run with a 9" wide wheel with or without spacers? The reason I am asking is that I can get some really good deals on some wheels and I like the look of having wide wheels and tires on a VR4.If anyone here is running a 17x9 wheel please post pic and info such as 17x9+35 255-45-17 does not rub had to trim control arm etc and again 17x9 and yes I know about evo wheels etc etc but 17x9's is what I am interested in..

No specific info but... A nine is going to poke, there is just not going to be enough room under there to tuck that width. And the tire size for a 245 should be a 40 series to stay at all close to original diameter.

The One Lap VR4 runs 17x9 Mustang Cobra wheels which have a ~6" backspacing. I run a 255/40-17's and they don't hit the rear trailing arm but they will rub the inner fender at full lock. They won't work with stock front struts, coil overs are a must. You can check out the website or just google us for pictures.
 

I have some BC coilovers in the works so that wont be an issue is the offset on those
mustang cobra wheels +24? I am still curious if something like a 17x9 +38 wheel will
work though and yes it would be 40 series tires with a 245/255 wide tire? I dont mind
if it pokes a bit I always hated how the VR4 wheels tuck anyway especially in the rear
I like that nice wide hunkered down look but not hella flush studpidity...So what is the
correct offset to run for a VR4 with a 17x9 wheel and 245-40-17 tires? pics would also help...
Again the wheels I am looking at are only available in a 17x9 hence the post I know
that 7.8-8.5 would work better but those are not an option.

Did some more digging around and found that some research went into a proper fitment for the 1g guys they found that a 17x9+27 was optimal for a good balance between stuffing as much wheel while retaining near stock suspension geometry looks like it does require coilovers and some negative camber as I thought interesting read.Here are 2 links below opinions please?

9" width +30ish will fit under the guards with a slight pull and a sensible amount of camber.

if your running with coilovers i think that you can make a 9" wide wheel barely tuck with alot of negative camber in the front.... might have to roll your fenders or pull them out a bit....

If only running a 235 or 245 why complicate things by attempting to run a 9" wheel? An 8" would be sufficient and with much less hassle.

^^ With a 17x8 rim you should be running maximum of 245/40/17 about 24.7 in diameter instead of 245/45/17 which is over 25 inches in rolling diameter that why they are rubbing. Offset on this size rims also matters.

Not trying to lol just got a really good deal on some 17x9 from the sema show as I stated before and yes I know an 8" wheel would be better but the wheels are only available in a 17x9 not 17x8. If its going to be too much hassle I may just use the 17x7 I have but i think a 17x7 looks like ass on a VR4 they are too narrow just my opinion....

Had a buddy stop over and bolted his 18x9" 30offset wheels to #108... The tires were 245-40's. I'm gonna roll the fenders a bit tonight, but clears the rear trailing arm and everything fine.
